On 14th December 2009, Ideal Standard International Egypt Business Leader Ahmed Hafez was presented with ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certificates by the Chairman & Managing Director of the independent external certifying organization, SGS Egypt. The certification was awarded for the production of acrylic sheets and bathtubs II at two of ISI’s plants in Egypt.
The presentation was attended by the full Egyptian Management Team and David Tjong, Global Director, Health, Safety & Environment.  “This is a great achievement for ISI Egypt and was made possible by the excellent collaboration and support given to the HS&E team by the Egyptian Business Leader Ahmed Hafez and the Category Leader Lucio Colussi,” commented David Tjong.
And on January 14, the team received further good news when SGS notified them that in addition to the awards for acrylic sheets and bathtubs production, all other plants in Egypt (Ceramics, Brass Fittings, the MISR1 Bathtub and the Shower Enclosure plants) had also passed their ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 2nd stage Certification audits. “Passing the audit first time is evidence of the level of commitment of Ideal Standard Egypt’s employees and the support that the management team give to Environmental, Health & Safety issues,” said Ahmed Azzam Group Safety & Environmental Health Leader, Ideal Standard Egypt. “It’s all about winning as a team, in line with the company’s values.”
The awards acknowledge the hard work, led by the Egyptian Health, Safety and Environmental team to document and implement rigorous environmental management standards and occupational health and safety standards.
ISO (International Standards Organization) and OHSAS (Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series) certification are internationally recognized awards that are only granted to companies after they have implemented structured, documented management systems.
These latest awards complement the Quality Management System ISO 9001:2000 certification, already held by Ideal Standard International Egypt and demonstrate the Egyptian team’s commitment to achieving an integrated Quality Health Safety & Environment Management System.
